All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) (Tamil: அனைத்திந்திய அண்ணா திராவிட முன்னேற்ற கழகம்) is a state political party in the states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, India. The party was founded by M. G. Ramachandran and is now headed by J. Jayalalithaa. The party headquarters is in Royapettah, Chennai, and was gifted to the party in 1986 by its former leader Janaki Ramachandran, wife of M. G. Ramachandran.

Thousands vie for AIADMK ticket for polls

CHENNAI: Chennai’s Lloyds Road wore the look of a carnival zone, as AIADMK cadre from across the State thronged the party head quarters to submit applications for tickets in the upcoming Assembly election.

Optimism surrounding the exercise has been so high that in the past 11 days the party has received as many as 8,616 applications for all of 234 Asse mbly constituencies in the state. And party functionaries have paid as much as Rs. 8.54 crore towards the application fee. The rival camp of DMK and Congress are yet to begin accepting applications.

On request from its cadre, the AIADMK extended the application deadline for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry to February 23, a day before the 63rd birthday of it supremo J Jayalalithaa.

The crowds at the party headquarters signified not just a show of strength but that of cadre's optimism. "We have no doubts we will win," said Kaaduvetti Ponnuswamy of Thiruverkadu, after buying an application for his friend.

"I already submitted my application on the second day." When asked if he would consider the fee a waste if he did not secure a ticket, he snapped back, saying, “This is not an expense. It is my contribution to my party. ” There were other considerations as well. “Whether I get a ticket or not, I don’t care. I just cannot put up with Alagiri anymore, and this is but a small step in that direction,” fumed ‘Telex’ Pandian of Madurai.
